I have thoroughly enjoyed this course.  I got more out of it  than I expected of  a 10 weeks course.  I am thankful to Jerrie and fellow classmates  for their rich contributions.  I am now able thanks to this very practical Course, to access the huge teaching and learning resources of the web. I recommend web 2.0 for every teacher.

Thing 22 Social Networking

I found Classroom 2.0 and the Ning websites  good social Networking tools for Professional development.  As a lifelong learner,  I am able to keep myself updated on current events and also express my interests and passions.

For classroom teaching and learning, students and teachers are able to share ideas and resources.  Classroom 2.0 allow  for the creation of networks on any subject. The link below is a useful video on 21st century learning – wiki textbooks by Hellen Harvey, where students created digital textbooks on History.

I found in my Reader a post about the launch of a mobile device  designed to increase independence for people who have trouble reading standard prints.

what a  great help for students with dyslexia.  I am glad that technology is also getting ‘inclusive’

Portable device takes pictures of text, reads aloud

‘This portable device can take pictures of any printed material including textbooks, novels, letters, magazines, or even bus schedules and automatically converts it into accessible digital formats. The device also highlights each word on its built-in LCD display’.

Thimg 21 Pageflakes

Filed under: Uncategorized — cornie at 5:26 pm on Wednesday, December 9, 2009

It is convenient to have all my favorite media sources and online services on one customized web page. I can view the weather, news, photos, blogs, emails, podcasts and all social networks in one place. I can add, edit and share them whenever I want. I found setting up my pageflakes easy.

In the classroom, pageflakes can be useful in organizing the scheme of work, study topics and homework. students can set up their own pageflakes to further organize their study. It forms a good base for collaborative work among students.

Thing20 Google Docs.

knowledge is really power! This course has empowered me so much that I feel indebted to Jerrie who put it together. Everyday, I am handed a new tool, a key to the treasure – the 21st century technology. Just when I thought there couldn’t be any more, something real good shows up – the Google docs. I love Google and wonder why I never took time to explore it. I wish I had done the Google doc. thing last week because I just bought myself Microsoft office for my new computer. For the classroom, Google doc will be good for:

- organizing lesson plans for subs.
- student evaluation and tracking
- sharing spreadsheets and presentations with students, colleagues or parents

Google docs is a sure time saving tool for the teacher.

I love the visual effect and soft music in the background, calm enough to help the Social Studies students focus on the faces of the Presidents. The Teachertube had good videos for almost any topic. it’s good to get these free.

Thing17 Podcasts

My first experience with Podcasting was two months ago and my very first podcast was a birthday song to my daughter. I am excited about this technology.

I have itunes already downloaded to my computer.   I have listened and subscribed to some  Podcasts in Educational Podcasts Networks(EPN),  PBS and NPR.    It is an amazing learning tool.    I feel Podcasts can be a good way to reinforce educational concepts. Students can listen to lessons at home, in the bus, anywhere!

As a historian, I love podcasting because it is digital story telling.  It is cheap, creative and interactive.  Classroom podcasts can help students become good story tellers and communicators.

Thing16 Library Thing

Filed under: Uncategorized — cornie at 3:30 pm on Monday, December 7, 2009

Library thing  is a cool ‘social thing’. The zeal to read what everyone else is reading and contribute positively to the virtual conversation is a good thing for the students.

I personally found it an easy access to my favorite author and genre. I also like to know what is popular and what ‘thoughts’ are influencing the community. Joining a book club is a fun thing.  I have signed on.

Delicious! what a beautiful way to organize the huge amount of information and resources the Internet offers to me. It is a rich way to increase my website resources.

With Delicious I am able to store my bookmarks on the web and  access them from across the world.  I believe it’s a great way to make information accessible to all. A  great way to help others out.   I can view my colleagues’ bookmarks and share mine with them.

Social Bookmarking can be is a rich tool for students, educators and researchers.  I love it.

I love the Google Reader. I found an interesting feed from Techlearning.

New Learning System makes it Personal   www.techlearning.com/article/25506

the feed is about the creation of a Learning content Management System(LCMS) which will enable a Florida virtual School to repackage current course content into personalized learning opportunities for each student. Isn’t that cool?.
